ABOUT THE ZINASU

Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) is a united front of Zimbabwean students, dedicated to the socio-economic advancement of students and the liberation of students from all forms of exploitation and oppression. ZINASU is committed to defending academic freedoms and rights, promoting democracy, non-racism, non-sexism, gender equality, and student representation at the national level. ZINASU recognizes the problems facing the education sector and the need to resolve them, guided by the principles of Ubuntu. ZINASU is a universitas with a legal personality separate from its membership, with perpetual succession and the capacity to do all things compatible with its constitution and ideals. ZINASU calls upon all students to join in the struggle for a better future for Zimbabweans. Together, ZINASU stands ready to fight for rights and the liberation of all oppressed and marginalized groups.

WHAT HAVE STUDENT-POWER ACCOMPLISHED?

QUALITY, AFFORDABLE EDUCATION

Students use research and advocacy on issues related to education, including access, quality, and affordability. They use data and evidence to inform advocacy efforts and to hold decision-makers accountable for their commitments to education

PROTECTION FROM AUTHORITARIANISM

Through our advocacy and activism, students aim to hold decision-makers accountable for their actions and to promote democratic governance and the rule of law. Students believe that by mobilizing students and engaging in peaceful protests and other forms of activism, they can help protect against authoritarianism and promote a more just and equitable society.

Our union has a long history of standing up against authoritarianism and defending the rights of students and other marginalized groups.

GENDER EQUALITY AND PROTECTION FROM DISCRIMINATION

Students have a long history of fighting for gender equality and the protection of students from discrimination. They have played a key role in many movements for social justice, including the fight against gender-based violence, sexual harassment, and discrimination in all its forms.

Today, they  continue to work tirelessly to promote gender equality and to protect students from discrimination. They engage in advocacy and activism on issues such as gender-based violence, sexual harassment, and discrimination in all its forms. They also provide support to our members who are facing discrimination or harassment for their gender or identity.
