The Youth Climate Justice Fund (YCJF) is on the lookout for a dedicated and talented Participatory Grant Manager to join our team. This role is pivotal in fostering and supporting our participatory grant-making model while driving further decentralization and regionalization of decision-making processes.
About Us:
The Youth Climate Justice Fund (YCJF) is dedicated to supporting youth climate justice movements through trust-based funding, resources, and youth-to-youth capacity development. Launched during New York Climate Week 2023, we’ve already made significant strides, receiving over 1,800 applications worldwide in our first grantmaking call. In 2023, we allocated $500,000 to support 40 groups working tirelessly for climate justice.
Location:
Remote, preferably in the Global South.
Compensation:
$230 per day – full time (35hrs/week) + benefits.
Contract Type:
Renewable consultancy contract, managed by our Fiscal Sponsor in the United States on behalf of the Youth Climate Justice Fund. Vacation time and benefits are included.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Participatory Grantmaking:
- Lead the preparation and launch of YCJF’s call for applications.
- Distribute applications to youth-led steering committees.
- Provide support and guidance to prospective applicants.
- Design a process for receiving and translating applications.
- Research and implement improvements to our grant-making process.
Facilitation of Participatory Grantmaking Processes:
- Implement YCJF’s decentralized participatory grant-making model.
- Support regional facilitators in organizing and leading grantmaking roundtables.
- Conduct training sessions for Regional Facilitators and Advisors.
- Attend regional grantmaking committee discussions.
- Facilitate meetings with selected prospective grantee partners.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning:
- Ensure regional boards meet deadlines and receive adequate support.
- Uphold communication, collaboration, and safeguarding practices.
- Gather insights to improve YCJF’s grant-making processes.
- Support Regional Facilitators in maintaining robust records.
- Implement disciplinary measures if needed, in accordance with YCJF Safeguarding Policy.
Profile:
Experience:
- Over 5 years in social justice philanthropy or movements.
- Commitment to advancing social justice, particularly for marginalized groups.
- Passion for climate justice and addressing systemic marginalization.
- Proficient in communication and facilitating meetings/events.
- Experience managing staff and consultants.
Skills:
- Kindness, empathy, and care for others.
- Comfort with technological tools.
- Dedication to climate justice principles.
- Ability to work with diverse cultures.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Deadline-driven and ability to work under pressure.
