Job Description
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the post of University Librarian at the National University of Science and Technology.
Job Purpose: Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, the University Librarian, being one of the Principal Officer positions, provides leadership, strategic direction, and oversees the development and implementation of the University’s overall strategic goal in the area of library services and resources in support of the University’s mandate in teaching, learning, research, innovation, and industrialisation.
Duties And Responsibilities
•Oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of the library’s strategic plans, programmes, and services in support of the university’s mission and goals
•Initiates and oversees the development, interpretation, communication, and implementation of library policies and procedures
•Ensures that the library provides adequate and relevant books, e-resources, and other reading materials, examines book reviews, publishers’ catalogues, and other selection tools to be added to the collection
•Ensures the selection, acquisition, and installation of appropriate hardware and software for the library systems and initiates the development and maintenance of the library website;
•Ensures the dissemination of information on new products and services through the intranet and the library website
Oversees the maintenance of physical infrastructure
•Ensures prudent utilisation of financial and physical resources
•Mobilises financial resources for the library by adopting strategies or initiatives for generating and attracting revenue from internal and external sources
•Supervises subordinate staff and ensures that performance appraisals are conducted for all staff in the Library
•Prepares quarterly and annual performance reports
•Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with academic staff, students, and other stakeholders
•Performs any other duties as assigned by the Vice Chancellor
Qualifications And Experience
• Minimum qualification of a Master of Science Degree in Library and Information Sciences or equivalent and related qualification, a PhD in Library and Information Science or related field is an added advantage
• Must have proof of membership to a professional organization or association
• Proven IT skills of library systems, internet operations, and development of web pages and other IT innovations
• Knowledge of trends in library science, including the ability to evaluate emerging technologies
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
How To Apply
• Minimum of ten (10) years post-qualification experience in managing Library and Information Services in a University at a senior level;
• Evidence of research and publications in relevant disciplines will be an added advantage
